Torah, Book of Mormon, New Testament, Quran, Modern Prophets: Yes. Repentance is necessary. Some New Testament followers believe that Jesus Christ made repentance unnecessary. But multiple New Testament passages make it clear, both before Jesus Christ suffered, and after, that repentance continued to be necessary. Some believe that faith in Jesus Christ is a substitute for repentance. The Book of Mormon makes clear that faith must grow "unto repentance", and is incomplete without it. All these texts believe that faith in God is necessary, and most of them indicate that that faith must be manifested by one's actions, including repentance. The Quran does not believe that Jesus Christ suffered for our sins, but it teaches and encourages the necessity of repentance.

Yes. We are not here by accident. Our life on earth is intentional. It is given by a loving Father in Heaven who provided a mortal experience so we could learn to make choices that bring greater happiness and peace.

New Testament, Book of Mormon and Modern Prophets. Yes. Modern Prophets states, "His Atonement also redeems us from our own sins on condition of repentance." Matthew in the New Testament cites Jesus Christ as saying, "Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." The Book of Mormon states, "Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son." And again, "All men must repent"; and "none but the truly penitent are saved." All three texts indicate that men are commanded to repent. The New Testament states that "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Peter also said, "Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins." Some Christians believe that Peter's words were advisory only, while others understand them as mandatory. The Book of Mormon and Modern Prophets confirm the mandatory understanding. The Book of Mormon in 2 Nephi confirms this, stating, "follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father? And the Father said: Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son." And Modern Prophets states, "only through repentance do we gain access to the atoning grace of Jesus Christ and salvation", and "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, and he that believeth not, and is not baptized, shall be damned."
