The blessings of Abraham are available to all who follow the covenants of Abraham, regardless of whether they were born as actual descendants of Abraham, or are "adopted" into the House of Israel by covenant. Modern Prophets Russell M. Nelson stated, "others are gathered into his family by adoption. The Lord makes no distinction." In D&C 84:33 it states that faithfulness determines lineage, not lineage that determines faithfulness: "Whoso is faithful unto the obtaining these two priesthoods¡Kbecome the seed of Abraham." In the New Testament the Savior warned actual descendants of Abraham to not misunderstand such heritage as a surety of righteousness, saying: "And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham." Paul also highlighted that actual lineage without righteousness was insufficient, saying, "For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children."
