The Book of Mormon tells of a time when "king Limhi and many of his people were desirous to be baptized; but there was none in the land that had authority from God." Modern Prophets states that, "There can be no true Church without divine authority." The laying on of hands to give authority is referenced in the Torah, New Testament, and Modern Prophets. Modern Prophets states, "We believe that a man must be acalled of God, by bprophecy, and by the laying on of chands by those who are in dauthority, to epreach the Gospel and administer in the fordinances thereof."
