New Testament, Book of Mormon, and Modern Prophets: Truth about God can only be known through the Holy Ghost. Reason alone is insufficient, and will produce mistaken results. The New Testament states, "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God....But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." This witness of the Holy Ghost--a feeling of peace--comes through prayer, scripture study, and a sincere effort to follow and test the truth.

View EntriesEveryone can know the truth about God if they seek for it and satisfy other conditions for learning it. They may learn it gradually, line upon line. Some Quran provisions may imply that some are kept from the truth by God, but that may merely be a restatement that they have not met the conditions for learning truth since such provisions seem to relate primarily to the wicked.
View EntriesTorah, Nevi'im, Ketuvim, Book of Mormon, New Testament, Quran, and Modern Prophets: Yes. God does hear and answer prayers. He always answers according to His will. But He also requires that we ask and seek Him in faith. The New Testament states, "Without faith, it is impossible to please God", and admonishes us to "ask in faith." The Book of Mormon states that God "work[s] not among the children of men save it be according to their faith." God determines what level of faith is necessary for each prayer and each person, but for many prayers He requires faith strong enough to impel us to act, not just a mental assent.

Christ gave the most direct teaching on this point in the Lord's Prayer where he said that we should pray, "Our Father which art in heaven." The Book of Mormon teaches us to, "ask the Father." Modern Prophets states, "Pour out your heart to your Heavenly Father."
